Virtual disk "Enter Passphrase" box not accepting typed characters

Oui, j'ai besoin d'une solution

I am using WIndows 8.1 and Symantec Desktop Encryption 10.3.1.

After upgrading to Windows 8.1, I am experiencing a problem with the "Enter Passphrase" popup box when mounting a virtual disk.

I created a small (12GB) virtual disk in Fat 32 format (The same problem occurs with NTFS format).  When I try to mount the virtual disk, the "Enter Passphrase" box will popup as usual, but it will not accept any typed characters.  The cursor blinks at the far left of the box, and remains there no matter what I type.  This is not a "show keystrokes" issue, rather the cursor is stuck at the far left, and nothing I type appears.

I'd be grateful for any help.  Thanks.

John

P.S. The hard drive is an unencrypted data drive.

I have tree drives two are 2TB and one is a 1TB large . One the one TB I get this error code " Unable to decrypt: Not permitted by your Administrator (-12198). I just encrypted it and it took the ussaul time of two days but I am unable to decrypt or otherwise just use the drive. It shows up in disk managment as Healthy,(Active, Primary Partition) However I do see that under the file system it has changed from NTFS to RAW ? Since all of my drives are from WD wester Digital I also ran the Data LifeGuard Diagnostics and they have passed as Healthy and Good.

Now on both of my 2TB drives I get an error of : ". (Error recovering disk H: A recovery key was not found on this drive. The drive cannot be unlocked.) There is no window to type in either the key or the Parraphrase ? Does anyone have any ideas or has this happened to anyone eles ?

Modifying files and renaming them - normal behaviour?

Oui, j'ai besoin d'une solution

I've been struggling a bit on this issue, and wanted to share to see if others have the same experience, or if I'm just missing something obvious:

I've got a senario where a user is using PGP 10.3 (that would be Symantec Encryption Desktop 10.3.0):

They place a  text document in the File Share Encrypted folder (located on a Windows 2008r2 Std server rigged for file services). It becomes encrypted (like it should). They then open the text document (doc1.txt), modify it, and save as a different document name(doc2.txt), then close the renamed text document. It is saved in the same file share encrypted folder as doc1.txt is.

The issue:

When opening up doc2.txt, it shows corruption at the end of the file.

Additional Observation:

If the user creates a new document (doc3.txt) and copies the contents from doc1.txt into doc3.txt, saves the file in the same FSE, opening it works as intended.

This same behavior seems to be found when the user is attempting to modify Access databases in office 2007 and 2010. Any modification of the encrypted file and changing the name corrupts the file. The users have to maintain the encryption of the document.

Oui, j'ai besoin d'une solution

I have installed and tried to configure the product to encrypt and decrypt my mails.

I have exchanged public key with somone outside my organization. I can manually encrypt and decrypt contents to and from him.

The problem is that no sendt or recived mails are automaticaly encryptet or decrypted on my side.

I have never seen the notifier-windos when I send or recive encrypted mail.

I am running the software on a windows 7 client against a Exchange 2010 mailserver. I have tried to install this product on 2 diffrent computers but no diffrence in behavior. I have also turned off all firewalls,AV and securitysettings on the client. I have uninstalled all add-ins on client to.

I have now enabled debugging: http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH149847 , and when I try to send an email with encryption-button on I get this in the log:

PGP - Encrypted content length does not match

Oui, j'ai besoin d'une solution

Hi everyone,

I'm analyzing PGP. I have encrypted one file without zipping and i have used passphrase to encrypt, so S2K algorithm will process. However, according to openPGP format, it should be in this format:

34-byte random value (Block size + 2) + plaintext + 2 byte MDC tag + 20 byte MDC value

For my example, plaintext's length is 35 byte. Its extension is txt, so it equals to the length of file. As a result, total amount of encrypted value should be:

34 + 35 + 2 + 20 = 91.

However, my encrypted file has 94 byte content. Do you have any opinion where these 3 bytes come?

Also i have tried 3 more files to check that it has always extra 3 byte or not, however it changes for each one.

Regards.

After importing a (both public & private) key into PGP Desktop, the key is not available to be used for encryption and appears as unverified. The key appears with a gray circle under the Verified column in All Keys.  When tried to Sign the key, PGP prompts "This key is already signed by the specified signing key."

Hi Guys,

i use to use PGP desktop couple of years back. I did some encrypted drives, which i was using as backup for a while on an external hard drive, and everything was fine. After sometime, i lost my licence (my company didn't renew it) and lost access to the files. I did keep the keys and all, and i have now re-installed Symantec Encryption desktop to be able to mount again the drives. My problem is that out of 4, i can only mount one (of course, the empty one...) for the 3 others, i get this error :

PGP Disk Mount Failed because: "item not found"

what is it all about ? i believe that if there's one i can mount, i should be able to mount the others.... no?

Hi,

My customer have a Universal Server with LDAP synchronization, and he need to create a bat for install the pgp desktop with no user interface.

I can install the pgp desktop fine, but I can´t enroll the user with command line.

How to do this? And after this I can execute the --secure command for encrypt disk with the enrolled user?

Oui, j'ai besoin d'une solution

PGP Desktop fails to decrypt encrypted messages. The PGP Log error message is:

MAPI Proxy: Decryption failed with error: required public key not found

I have reimported the relevant public key, signed it, activated it, set my Trust to Implicit, cached my passphrase, downloaded the relevant public key from pgp.keyserver.com and re-imported it. None of these things has fixed the problem, and I consistently get the same error message every time PGP Desktop tries to decode a message.

Now when I made it I have 1 file.pgp. I would like to have the same number of secured files which isn't secured.

keyservers and mail policies

Oui, j'ai besoin d'une solution

Hi,

I have a challenge in controlling the listed keyservers of Symantec Encryption Desktop clients using Symantec Encryption Management Server. It is the same issue as described here :https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/pgpdesktop-deployment

Unfortunately, the responses in that topic are just rethorical questions, and the suggestion is that the list of keyservers is set by the (mail?) policies of the SEMS. But I need to know which ones affect the list of the keyservers in the client?

I have cleaned out the mail policies that end up in the client, removed keyserver.pgp.com and keys.{$DOMAIN} (or whatever) from the keyserver lists because the keyserver also does not have internet connections.

For all mail policies present in the list I checked which keyserver they use for alternate lookups, even though I think that should not be relevant to the desktop client.

Now, when I enroll a user (erase the prefs folder), I get two entries in the keyserver list:

- 'keyserver.pgp.com (over LDAP)'.  - Since we're in a secure environment, LDAP to external systems is obviously out of the question, even if only to keyserver.pgp.com.

- Our SEMS is listed with Universal Services Protocol (over https). I do not want this, because it relies on proxy settings of the local machine.

So, what policies do I need to change to only have our keyserver in LDAP mode listed as a keyserver?

Thank you very much for your suggestions!

Oui, j'ai besoin d'une solution

Hello everyone,

Been using PGP encryption for awhile now and everything with netshares works well. I do have a new scenario to put into place now, I have to share some encrypted content with a partner and that partner can only decrypt .PGP .GPG or .ASC file formats. So not sure what the best approach is, re-encrypt the files with the vendors public key in that format? or just rename the files to a .pgp format?. Is there a command line script that can be used to re-encrypt all the files we will be sending to our partner with the .pgp  I basically looking for the most transparent way of accomplishing this. If I can script this using the PGP command lines, that would be ideal!

Can someone please advise on the best approach I can take? Thanks

Need to stop PGP from processing outgoing email.

Oui, j'ai besoin d'une solution

Our company's email policies require that email stop in the outbox before being sent out and we have a group policy in effect for this. However after installing PGP the outlook client automatically sends email out intead of leaving it in the outbox for the employee to double check. They are using the version 10.0.2. They were using outlook 2007 and in an attempt to fix the issue I have upgraded them to 2010 and then to 2013 both have the same issue. I have also tried removing the policies involved with outgoing email but it is still processing outgoing email. Is there a way to stop it from processing outgoing email?
